This is a great spot for hiking, thank you Washtenaw County Park Department. Normally is is very well maintained, great scenery, and lot of animals. Nice way to spend a few hours outdoors.
We scared up deer three times that bounded across the fields. There were plenty of birds too, including woodpeckers.
259 acres of wooded land and open fields that have not been farmed in many years. The entrance to this preserve is often prohibitively wet, esp. during the spring and fall. There are both deciduous forests and pine forests here, though you have to walk through a grassy area for quite a while before getting to the forested areas. The large trails mostly wind through the fields, but pass through forested areas occasionally. Smaller trails allow you to explore the forests at great length. Watch out, though, because some small trails lead to muddy areas where navigation is difficult. There are hilly, grassy areas around the southwest side of the preserve if forests aren't your thing. The Raisin River runs through the preserve and creates interesting scenery in all seasons. Insects aren't terribly bad here, but they can be a problem at times. This preserve has something for everyone.
It could you some maintenance now but overall it looks great!
We hiked 4 of the 5 miles of trail on a sunny winter Sunday. The trails are mowed grass in great shape. The walk along the high bluff side of the river is delightful.
This place is a real diamond in the rough. My fiance and I discovered it on accident while on a trip to Irish Hills. It has become on of our absolute favorite spring and fall places to go hiking. They have a beautiful little spot by a small river that has a small wooden bench where you can just sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature; I knew, the first time that that we sat there together, that it was where I would one day pop the question.
Some trails are steep especially around the kettle hole. this is another reason to be grateful for the Green belt millage.
